An apron is a household item used to cover up unclean things and prevent clothes from getting dirty when cooking, known as "helping the table" in Tibetan. It is a popular daily item among Tibetan women and also a symbol of Tibetan women.
Aprons are mainly produced in Lhasa, Shigatse, Shannan and other places, with aprons produced in Jiede Xiu District of Gongga County being the most famous. Jiede Xiu District is known as the "hometown of aprons".
In Tibetan, it is called 'Bangdan'. It is a popular daily item among Tibetan women and also a symbol of Tibetan women. The apron is made of colorful and stable fabric, with intricate and regular color stripes such as bright red, emerald green, sky blue, lemon yellow, purple, white, etc., showing a faint luster. Aprons are often worn by married women, and gradually young unmarried women also like to wear them. During festivals and celebrations, women wear aprons around their waists, sing and dance joyfully, like clusters of flowers and brocade, colorful and vibrant. Aprons are mainly produced in Lhasa, Shigatse, Shannan, Yiwu and other places, with aprons produced in Jiedexiu District of Gongga County being the most famous. Jiede Xiu District is known as the "hometown of aprons".
Tibetan blanket, made of yak plush, belongs to the top grade; White or colored, made of fine wool yarn from sheep, belonging to the middle grade; Black and white or various colored patterns, woven with a mixture of ordinary wool yarn and yak wool yarn or woven with pure wool yarn, are considered inferior products. Tibetan blankets are durable, warm and moisture-proof, and easy to carry. The majority of monks and laypeople, especially farmers and herdsmen, use them as bedding.
